Children’s Trust Arrangements

The Children’s Trust Arrangements bring together all services for children and young people in Leeds to focus on improving outcomes.  Recent legislation, as well as our reviews of local arrangements, identified that we needed to make some changes to our structure in Leeds.

Following consultation with partners and stakeholders, we have identified representatives to serve on the Leeds Children’s Trust Board and the Leeds Safeguarding Children Board.

Leeds Children’s Trust Board

The Leeds Children’s Trust Board brings together senior representatives from Children Leeds’ partner organisations, including NHS Leeds, West Yorkshire Police, Jobcentre Plus, schools and the voluntary community and faith sector, in order to strengthen our co-ordination arrangements and provide a local vision for improving the lives of children, young people and families.

The new Leeds Children’s Trust Board meets for the first time at the end of April.  The Board will develop a new-style Children and Young People’s Plan, for publication in April 2011.   This will focus not only on what Council services do to improve outcomes for children and young people in Leeds, but on what all of our partners do together to focus on our priorities.

 Leeds Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB)

We have reviewed and strengthened our safeguarding arrangements, with a revised Leeds Safeguarding Children Board also due to meet at the end of April.  The LSCB is an independent board which provides a local partnership vision for safeguarding children and young people, ensuring that services are effective in promoting their welfare and keeping them safe.

The LSCB brings together senior representatives from our partners, including NHS Leeds, West Yorkshire Police, the Youth Offending Service, the voluntary community and faith sector, the NSPCC and schools.  In addition, the LSCB will have an independent chair, as well as two lay members appointed from the community.  The work of the Board will be supported by professional medical and legal advisors.
