The Parenting Unit is a small central
unit within our
Children’s Trust arrangements which has the purpose of improving
coherent
planning and commissioning.
It has the following key
roles:
Programmes and education -

1. Promote,
publicise, co-ordinate, support and quality assure evaluated accredited
parenting programmes across children’s services, the city and the
continuum of
need and all age groups.
2. Promote and
publicise the agreed menu of parenting programmes that will be delivered
regularly across the city, across the age ranges and levels of need.
3. Make sure
appropriate and accessible information about family support services,
and
parenting programmes, is available to parents and practitioners through a
number of channels.
Participation and commissioning -

Promote parental choices and voices in
the delivery of
services by:
1. Supporting
the development of a parent/carer involvement strategy
2. Making sure
families’ views support the commissioning of parenting, and family
support,
services by identifying service gaps.
3. Supporting
city wide parenting forums as appropriate.
4. Provide a
parents involvement service on behalf of Aiming High for disabled
children.
Provide workforce development support

the workforce training needs and making sure these are met in relation
to
outcome based practice
2. Promoting
good, outcome focussed practice, and promoting learning from pathfinders
and
pilots.
3. Promoting a
shared ethos for all workers who deliver family support and parenting

that good practice and recent research is sent out across the parenting
and
